5 Social Media Marketing Tips for Visual Artists

Visual Art

The more comprehensive the world of social media becomes, the harder it is for beginners to get started. But why stay offline? Not necessarily.

Aside from using a SMM panel for social media marketing, these five tips for beginners provide a short orientation aid for artists who first have to make friends with social media:

1. What do you want to show?

Artists have the advantage that their visual work represents the perfect content. Insights into the creation of the works of art, in phases of inspiration or in concert rehearsals allow fans and friends to experience everyday artistic life.

Basically, you should have answered the following questions for yourself before starting social media:

  • What is my goal? (Sales or image building)
  • What public events will there be in the near future?
  • How much insight do I gain into my work?
  • What do I show backstage?
  • How much insight do I give into my private life?

This is how content is created.

2. Find your platform

The social media world is divided: Every user looks for the most popular and informative platform for him. Therefore, there are two guidelines when choosing the right platform for you:

  • Where is your target group?
  • Do you have content for them? That means: Can you present your art on this platform?

3. Find your language

Whether posting, newsletter, blog post, or reply to the organizer: With every sentence to the outside you sharpen your own profile. Do I even know what I want to tell?

4. Schedule time

Regular contact with followers is time-consuming. Finding the best photo, editing videos, formulating the right posting text – all this takes time and routine. Many platforms and apps offer to schedule postings for a few days in advance. This is especially helpful if you know that you will not come to the post every day. On the other hand, spontaneity is also lost, which gives fans a more authentic insight into the artist’s life (and they are accordingly more interested).

Again, it is a question of personality, how often, how spontaneously, and how timely your post is. Is a concert performance accompanied or “only” digital presence shown? Decide for yourself!

5. Inform about your account

Start slowly: Set up your account, fill in biography fields and contact details, link to a website – and start with the first postings.

Take your time to get to know the platform. Take a look at comparable artists, and how they present themselves online – and then decide which of them is suitable for you!

Once you’ve made friends with the respective platform, let your friends know about it and be open to feedback.

And then it goes out into the world!
